Development Platforms Eclipse / RAD / RDz
In the future, the application development process will require the availability of a system that is flexible and capable of adapting itself quickly to changes in technology and individual needs. Up till now the use of most proprietary tools required a high conversion cost if basic features had to be changed. The redundant data management resulting from the practice of using a multiplicity of successive tools that failed to complement each other consistently led to large problems.
The open-source-platform Eclipse makes basic functionality available for application development, and, with the use of plug-ins, makes it possible to achieve a complete level of desired functionality (tool integration).
The platform RAD (Rational Application Developer, former: WSAD (Websphere Studio Application Developer)), made available by IBM as an Eclipse enhancement, provides support for several areas, e.g.
- the development of HTML, XML, Java, JSP, Servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans and Webservices.
- integrated test environment, debugger
- code generator EGL (informix support)
- integrated build processes
- team development environments for CVS and Rational ClearCase
At the same time, additional functionalities (plug-ins) are available from a multiplicity of software producers. We at SoforTe will support you in the selection, the employment and the development of plug-ins Ask us about our experiences with daily projects. You will find detailed information here.
Furthermore, the platform Rational Developer for System z (RDz), aka WebSphere Developer for System z (RDz), made available by IBM, provides functionality for the integrated development of host system applications, e.g.
- the development of COBOL and PL/I programs
- development for the target systems IMS and CICS
- generator (EGL - Enterprise Generation Language) to create JAVA and COBOL applications
At the same time, many software producers also offer supplementary plug-ins. We will gladly advise you and work with you to develop your individual solutions.
Please obtain additional information on the IBM page for RDz, visit the IBM COBOL Cafe or contact us directly.
